Academic achievement – typically a GPA above 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
An MPH degree is preferred for admission into the Online DrPH. Students without an MPH degree will be required to complete the Foundational Master of Public Health curriculum (5 courses, 15 credit hours)

Online Master of Public Health (MPH) in Community Health Sciences
Prospective Online MPH students will apply through SOPHAS, the centralized application service for public health. SOPHAS fees are $150 for the first program and $60 for each additional program.

In general, scores of 89 or higher on TOEFL or an IELTS band of 6.5 are desired. Language testing is waived if the applicant has received a degree from an accredited U.S. institution. In addition to the other application requirements, non-native speakers of English will be provided an interview to demonstrate oral communication skills. This interview is not a substitute for the TOEFL or IELTS requirement.

The Tulane online MHA program is designed for working professionals. Applicants to the program must have at least two years of health-related work experience in either a clinical or management position. Additionally, applicants must have the support of their current healthcare employer to fulfill the experiential learning graduation requirement — a health-related project that incorporates the skills and competencies cultivated in the MHA program. Students can use internships, fellowships, and residency work to fulfill this requirement.

Online Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) in Leadership, Advocacy, and Equity
Prospective Online DrPH in Leadership, Advocacy, and Equity students will apply through SOPHAS, the centralized application service for public health. SOPHAS fees are $150 for the first program and $60 for each additional program.
In addition to the online application form, the requirements for the application consist of:
The online application form includes a series of short essay prompts (150-500 words) related to leadership, advocacy, and equity, and your career aspirations related to this degree.
Three letters of recommendation should illustrate your characteristics for success in graduate study. The letters should be from professional associates (e.g., former employers, mentors, faculty, advisors, etc.), not from family or friends. The letters of recommendation demonstrate to the admission committee that the writer believes you are a qualified candidate for doctoral studies.
We are asking you to submit a Curriculum Vitae (CV) and not a resume. A resume is a one-page summary of your work experience and background relevant to the position to which you are applying. Here you are applying for admission to a doctoral program. A CV is a longer academic diary that includes all of your experiences. On a CV you may include – certifications, publications, civic work, volunteerism, professional presentations, training, etc. Additionally, please be sure that your CV highlights at least three years of relevant experience (paid/unpaid).
If you do not have a CV, your enrollment advisor can provide you with a template to use.

- For applicants from non-English-speaking nations, a minimum Test of English Foreign Language (TOEFL) score of 89 for the internet-based test (IBT), 230 for the computer-based test (CBT), or 570 for the paper-based test (PBT) is required. Applicants may also submit scores from the International English Language Testing System (IELTS). Applicants should have a score of 7 or above for doctoral applications.

Please Note:
- The GRE is not required for admission to the DrPH in Leadership, Equity, and Advocacy Online program.
- A master’s degree (in any specialty) is preferred, but not required for admission. Students without an MPH degree will be required to complete the Foundational Master of Public Health curriculum (5 courses, 15 credit hours).
Personal Statement that clearly and directly addresses the following:
- Describes your professional experience that has demonstrated leadership in advocacy and equity.
- Discusses your future goals in the field of public health and how a DrPH from Tulane will help you achieve those goals.
A Master of Public Health degree (MPH) from a CEPH-accredited institution of higher learning and at least 3 years of work experience are required in addition to a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning.
- Applicants with an MPH degree that is not from a CEPH-accredited school or program will be considered but may be required to complete some or all of the prerequisite coursework and will be required to pass a challenge exam for SPHL 6020 – Foundations in Public Health.
- A few outstanding applicants without an MPH degree will be considered but will need to complete the Public Health Certificate. The certificate consists of the 5 courses of Prerequisite Coursework. Applicants admitted through this pathway will automatically matriculate into the DrPH program if they complete the Public Health Certificate with a grade of B or higher in all 5 prerequisite courses.
